How did a DJ company owner end up with a first grade teacher? Our story began at Laura and Tommy Thompson’s wedding on Saturday, August 8, 2015.
Kyle was the DJ for the wedding however, this gig was a little different for Kyle. Kyle and Tommy were middle school basketball buds so they were good friends. Tommy hired Kyle because of his kick butt DJ skills but he also wanted Kyle to be able to be on the dance floor with everyone and have a good time. It was a win-win for Kyle!
That explains why Kyle was at the Thompson wedding but how did Tanya get an invite? Tanya and Laura met at UW-River Falls. They were both pursuing their elementary education degrees. They bonded over student teaching stories, lesson plan writing, infamous River Falls bar crawls, and of course their mutual friend Chelsea Cantrell.
On the day of August 8th (Thompson wedding day) Tanya’s mom dropped her off just in time for the wedding ceremony. Tanya frantically entered the church and was looking for some of her college friends to sit with. While she was scanning the crowd for her friends she dropped the wedding gift she brought. The loud clanging of the metal measuring spoons hitting the wooden church pew caused Kyle to look Tanya’s way. They locked eyes and for you chick-flick lovers you would know that was their “meet cute” moment. Tanya’s friends noticed this moment and for the rest of the night they kept encouraging Tanya to go and talk to the cute DJ. The bride and groom were even in on it! They each individually walked up to Tanya and told her that she should talk to the DJ. So, she finally did. Flash forward to the end of the night. The dance floor had cleared. Only the bride and groom and Tanya and Kyle were left dancing to “Living on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi because Tanya’s little brother (Ron) was a half hour late picking her up from the wedding. Tanya’s little brother is notorious for being late, and for once, his tardiness was actually a blessing. Kyle and Tanya exchanged numbers and the next day Kyle invited Tanya over for dinner.
After the very first date, Kyle told his friends that he knew that this was different and that this was something incredible. Tanya knew Kyle was the one after he still went to the State Fair with her even though the night before he was in the emergency room having a minor surgery. He was up all night and exhausted but he never bailed on their date. After 18 months of dating Kyle proposed to Tanya on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Boom Island Park in Minneapolis. It was the perfect night. Now, after attending 15 weddings together, and for Kyle after DJing over 560 weddings, it’s time for their own Fulton Fairytale to begin on January 6th, 2018!
